Purdue University, in cooperation with the Indiana Hoosier Heartland CSTA, hosted thirteen teachers on campus for a three-day computer science teaching workshop from July 25th to July 27th, 2016. During the workshop, the teachers worked together to develop collaborative lesson plans, address the Big Ideas of the new Computer Science Principles course, and build the CSTA Community of Practice.
In addition to workshop sessions focused on lesson design, GitHub, Python, Raspberry Pi, the Oculus Rift, problem solving in CS1, and general teaching tips for CS classrooms, the teachers also spent their afternoons working together to develop lessons which they are now sharing among themselves. These lessons will be made available to other members of the Indiana CSTA in the near future.
The workshop was sponsored by a generous grant from State Farm Insurance. Questions about the event can be directed to Phil Sands (email@example.com).
